The Department of Mechanical Engineering, Safety and Fire Engineering, robotics and Automation Engineering and the Resource Club of Paavai Engineering College organized an online Guest Lecture on “Applied AI in Manufacturing” via the Microsoft Teams platform on February 7, 2026, from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM.
The session started with a welcome address by Mr. R Midhun, III Year MECH, followed by a Chief Guest introduction by Mr.V.S.Sachhin, III Year MECH.
The speaker Mr.S.A.Arun Kumar, Consultant – Finance & Accounting Transformation, Big4 Consulting Firm, Bangalore started the session by explaining the basic concepts of Artificial Intelligence, such as machine learning, data analysis, and automation, in a simple manner. The relevance of AI in manufacturing was clearly explained with real-life examples from industries.
The lecture focused on important applications of AI such as predictive maintenance, quality control, production planning, and automation. The speaker explained how AI helps in predicting machine failures, reducing downtime, improving product quality, and increasing productivity. The use of AI-based cameras for defect detection and robots for automated tasks was also discussed.
The concept of smart manufacturing and Industry 4.0 was introduced, showing how AI works together with sensors and machines to make factories smarter and more efficient. The challenges in using AI, such as high cost and need for skilled manpower, were also briefly discussed.
The session ended with a discussion on career opportunities in AI and manufacturing. Overall, the guest lecture was very useful and helped students gain basic knowledge about the role of AI in the manufacturing industry.
Finally, session was concluded with a Q&A by the students and faculty members which develop a keen interest in AI in manufacturing sector.
This online Guest lecture was organized by Dr. A.P.Sivasubramaniam, Professor & Head of the Department, and coordinated by Mr. J.Sujith Kumar, Dr. V.Senthil Kannan, Mr. T. Sathees and Students from II, III and IV year MECH and IV SFE actively participated, making the event a great success.
The session was completed with a vote of thanks delivered by Mr.S.Jayasuriya, III Year MECH, expressing gratitude to the guest speaker, organizers, faculty members, and participants for their valuable contributions.
