The Department of Biotechnology organized a guest lecture on “Biogas To Power: Unlocking Renewable Energy Source For A Sustainable Energy Sources” on 24th of January 2026. The event was convened by Dr.C.Nirmala, Head of the Department, Paavai Engineering College and Staff Coordinator Dr.P.Balaganesh ASP/BT, Mrs.T.Saranya, AP/BT and Ms.M.Muthumani, AP/BT. The session began with a welcome note by Mr.R.Kathiresan III Year Biotechnology. Dr.C.Nirmala delivered the Presidential address. Ms.M.Ayeesha Amreen II Year Biotechnology introduced the Guest speaker. The session was led by Dr.S.Sivamani, Senior Lecturer, Department of Chemical Engineering, University of Technology and Applied Sciences, Shalala, Oman. He discussed about transforming Biogas into Power. His presentation highlighted the graphical representation of efficient electricity production from Biogas included interactive discussions that allowed participants to ask questions and engage with the speaker.
Objectives of the Event
Details of the Event
The event provided insights into renewable energy technologies and sustainable power generation methods. The program focused on biogas as an eco-friendly alternative energy source to address increasing energy demand and environmental challenges. He discussed various sources of biogas and elaborated on the biogas production process through anaerobic digestion, including stages such as hydrolysis, acidogenesis, acetogenesis, and methanogenesis. The conversion of biogas into electricity using gas engines, turbines, and combined heat and power (CHP) systems was also explained in detail.
Outcome of the Event
The participants gained a clear understanding of biogas technology and its role in renewable energy production. The event enhanced students’ knowledge about waste-to-energy systems and encouraged them to adopt sustainable practices.
