The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, in association with the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) and Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE), organized an enlightening Guest Lecture on “Intellectual Property Rights in Digital Era” on Saturday, 21st February 2026. The session aimed to create awareness about intellectual property protection and ethical practices in research and innovation.
The session was graced by Dr. John De Britto C, Assistant Professor, Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Saveetha Engineering College, Chennai, who served as the distinguished resource person. With his extensive expertise in research, innovation, and academic publishing, he delivered a comprehensive and insightful talk on the fundamentals of Intellectual Property Rights in the digital era, covering patents, copyrights, trademarks, and industrial designs, along with the growing importance of research publication ethics.
The guest lecture emphasized key aspects such as originality in research, avoidance of plagiarism, responsible authorship, proper citation practices, identification of predatory journals, and ethical standards in scholarly publishing. The speaker also elaborated on the step-by-step procedures for patent and copyright filing, highlighting the significance of protecting intellectual assets in academia, startups, and industry-driven research.
The session featured real-world examples, case studies on IPR infringements, and practical insights into ethical research practices, which actively engaged both students and faculty members. The interactive nature of the lecture encouraged meaningful discussions and enhanced participants’ understanding of responsible research conduct in the digital age.

The lecture concluded with an interactive Q&A session, during which Dr. John De Britto C addressed various queries related to patent filing procedures, plagiarism detection tools, journal selection, and ethical challenges in research publications.
This guest lecture is part of the department’s continuous efforts to promote research excellence, innovation, ethical practices, and awareness of Intellectual Property Rights among engineering students. The one-day online guest lecture was organized under the guidance of the Professor and Head of the Department, Dr. G. Balaji, and was coordinated by Dr. S. Ramachandran, Mr. S. Sathisakumar, and Mrs. M. Saranya.
Ms. S. Shobika, a third-year EEE student, introduced the chief guest, and Ms. M. Deepikasri, also a third-year EEE student, delivered the vote of thanks.
