The Department of Mechanical Engineering, in association with Safety & Fire Engineering, Robotics & Automation, and the Resource Club of Paavai Engineering College, organized an online guest lecture on “Lattice Structures and Their Importance in Additive Manufacturing” on 28th August 2025 through Google Meet.
The resource person for the session was Dr. Aravind Raj Sakthivel, Professor, Department of Manufacturing, School of Mechanical Engineering, Vellore Institute of Technology. The program was coordinated by Dr. M. Selvaraj and Mr. J. Sujithkumar, under the guidance of Dr. A.P. Sivasubramaniam, Convener and HoD/Mech, and Dr. M. Premkumar, Patron and Principal.
The lecture focused on the fundamentals of additive manufacturing and highlighted the significance of lattice structures in modern engineering design. Dr. Aravind Raj explained how lattice structures contribute to developing lightweight yet strong components and discussed their applications in aerospace, automotive, biomedical, and defense industries. He also shared insights into emerging trends in additive manufacturing and encouraged students to explore research opportunities in this rapidly evolving field.
An interactive Q&A session enabled participants to clarify their queries and gain a deeper understanding of the subject. The event was well-received, with enthusiastic participation from faculty members, research scholars, and students.
The session provided valuable knowledge on advanced manufacturing technologies and their real-world applications. The department expressed its gratitude to the guest speaker for his insightful presentation and acknowledged the efforts of the faculty coordinators and the organizing team for successfully conducting the program.
