The Department of Biotechnology organized a one-day industrial visit to the National Institute of Food Technology, Entrepreneurship, and Management – Thanjavur (NIFTEM-T) on 24th April 2025. A total of 46 students and 3 faculty members actively participated in this insightful visit, which provided them with valuable exposure to the latest advancements in food technology and entrepreneurship.
Following an introductory session, the group explored several key facilities within NIFTEM-T. These included:
Food Processing Pilot Plant
Extrusion Cooking Unit
Spray Dryer Unit
Packaging and Labeling Unit
Microbial Testing Lab
The Unit Manager provided a detailed, live demonstration of each machine and its functionality. Students had the opportunity to observe and interact with advanced equipment such as the extruder, spray dryer, and automatic packaging systems. They also gained insights into the operation of microbial testing instruments, essential for maintaining food safety and quality.
The visit concluded with a feedback session, where students shared their experiences and key takeaways. Many expressed their appreciation for the opportunity to witness the practical application of food technology and biotechnology. Several students also voiced interest in pursuing careers in this field or engaging in entrepreneurial ventures.
Overall, the industrial visit to NIFTEM-T was an excellent learning experience. It offered students real-world exposure to food processing technologies, the entrepreneurial ecosystem, and cutting-edge machinery. The day proved to be a rich source of inspiration, knowledge, and growth for all participants.
