The Internal Complaints Committee of Paavai Engineering College organized a one-day seminar titled “Awareness Programme on POSH” on 28th October 2025 at Tata Hall, with the primary objective of creating awareness among students about sexual harassment and the various Acts implemented for the welfare of women. The programme aimed to sensitize faculty members, staff, and students on the importance of ensuring a safe and respectful working and learning environment.
The event witnessed the enthusiastic participation of 350 girl students from multiple departments across the institution, all of whom showed a keen interest in learning about sexual harassment and related Acts. The session commenced with a warm welcome address delivered by Ms. Nithya Shri, a first-year student from the Department of Aeronautical Engineering, who set the tone for the day by highlighting the significance of such initiatives in broadening students’ awareness.
The Presidential Address was delivered by Dr. K. Selvi, Dean (Academics), who emphasized the importance of understanding sexual harassment in the workplace. She urged the students not only to be aware of the Acts but also to voice their concerns and come forward to register complaints with the Internal Complaints Committee whenever necessary.
The Keynote Address was delivered by the guest speaker, Mr. T. Ravichandran, M.A., MBA, M.Sc., State Resource Person, SIRD/NIRD, Namakkal. The Chief Guest gave an insightful lecture on the provisions of the POSH Act, procedures for filing complaints, and preventive measures to eliminate harassment in educational institutions and workplaces. He elaborated on real-life case studies and legal perspectives, encouraging participants to foster a culture of respect and dignity. The session concluded with an interactive discussion during which participants clarified their doubts regarding the functioning of the Internal Complaints Committee.
The event was convened by Dr. R. Shanthi, Professor and Head, Department of English, who provided strategic support and guidance throughout the planning and execution of the seminar. The programme was coordinated by Ms. R. Saranya, ASP, Dr. R. Tamilselvi, AP, and Ms. T. Manjula, AP, from the Department of English.
The seminar concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Ms. R. S. Nandhini, a first-year CSE student, who expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the guest speaker and all those who contributed to the success of the event.
