The Department of Chemical Engineering organized a seminar on “What Industry Expects from Chemical Engineers and Designing of Heat Exchanger Demo” on 16th October 2025, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Cute Hall.
The event began with a welcome address delivered by Dr. P. Jayakaran, Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering, followed by the presidential address given by Dr. M. Prem Kumar, Principal of Paavai Engineering College.
The distinguished guest speakers, Ms. S. Dhanabhagyavathi, Managing Director, and Ms. P. S. Kaaviya, CEO and Academic Director, Institute of ChemE Design and Development, Coimbatore, delivered an insightful lecture and live demonstration on the design of a shell and tube heat exchanger using HTRI software with a sample problem.
They highlighted the vital role of chemical engineers in the field of design and simulation, emphasizing the importance of having a strong foundation in industrial software tools. They explained how the use of such software enhances core technical knowledge and shared insights about top companies offering career opportunities for design engineers.
Through this seminar, students gained a deeper understanding of heat exchanger principles and design concepts and learned how design software supports process efficiency and optimization. The program broadened their awareness of industrial design technologies and inspired them toward future research and innovation.
The chief guests were introduced by Mr. A. Michael Steve, a third-year Chemical Engineering student, and the vote of thanks was proposed by Ms. N. Nithaya Tahani, a second-year Chemical Engineering student.
This one-day seminar was organized under the guidance of Dr. P. Jayakaran, Professor and Head of the Department, and coordinated by Dr. S. Pandiarajan and Mr. P. Saileswaran.
