A highly informative guest lecture on “Geospatial Technology in Agriculture” was successfully conducted on March 15, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM via Google Meet. The resource person for the session was Dr. Ramasubramoniam, Scientist “SF” at the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), Bengaluru. The event was efficiently coordinated and hosted by Mr. N. Satheswaran and Mr. B. Mano, Assistant Professors.
The session commenced with a warm welcome by Dr. B. Kailashkumar, Head of the Department (HoD), Agricultural Engineering, followed by a detailed introduction of the resource person by M. Kishore, Final Year Student and Student Secretary (Agricultural Engineering).
Dr. Ramasubramoniam began his presentation by explaining the vital role of geospatial technology—including satellite imagery, GIS, and remote sensing—in modern agriculture and natural resource management. He discussed how these tools are revolutionizing farming practices by enabling better crop health monitoring, soil condition assessments, and optimized irrigation. Emphasizing precision agriculture, he highlighted how geospatial data enhances decision-making, improves crop yields, and promotes sustainability.
Additionally, he spoke about the growing job opportunities in the geospatial technology sector, stressing the increasing demand for professionals skilled in GIS analysis, remote sensing, and spatial data management.
During the session, students asked insightful questions, which the guest speaker addressed with detailed explanations and valuable insights.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Mr. N. Satheswaran, Assistant Professor (Agricultural Engineering), who expressed gratitude to the resource person, faculty members, and participants for their contributions to the session’s success.
