The department of Biomedical Engineering and Medical Electronics in association with Prashan Medical Technologies, Coimbatore has conducted a Guest Lecture on “Empowering Biomedical Engineers: Skills for the Next Generation” on 21st Feb 2025. The guest lecture is all about how the biomedical engineers possess a unique blend of skills that allow them to bridge the gap between medicine and engineering and how these skills empower them to design and develop medical devices, systems, and technologies that improve patient care and enhance healthcare delivery. He presented on the skill development of biomedical engineers who have a deep understanding of designing devices and systems such as prosthetics, medical imaging systems, and diagnostic equipment. He also explained how to apply principles of mechanics, electronics, and materials science to create functional medical devices and solve complex problems in medical technology. He insisted that Biomedical engineers use their knowledge to analyze medical challenges and create innovative solutions to improve health outcomes, whether it’s designing a new drug delivery system or enhancing a medical imaging technique. He explained how the biomedical engineers often work with large datasets, including patient records or sensor data, and must be skilled at analyzing and interpreting this information to improve healthcare systems. Also how they use software to model biological systems, design simulations, and develop algorithms for medical applications. He said that the biomedical engineers also must understand healthcare regulations, such as FDA approval processes and ISO standards, to ensure that devices meet safety and quality requirements and staying up to date with advancements in medical technology and continually innovating in the field is essential.
