The Department of Biotechnology at Paavai Engineering College successfully organized a Guest Lecture on “Unraveling the Protein Architecture” on March 3, 2025. The event was convened by Dr. C. Nirmala, Head of the Department of Biotechnology, along with staff coordinators Mrs. T. Saranya and Ms. E. Gomathi. The Presidential Address was delivered by Dr. M. Premkumar, who set the tone for the event with his insightful remarks. The session was skillfully moderated by Ms. C.S. Nikhitha, a third-year Biotechnology student, while Ms. Sharmita S., a second-year Biotechnology student, introduced the Guest Lecturer, Dr. Sambhasan Banerjee, highlighting his remarkable contributions to the field.
Dr. Sambhasan Banerjee, a Postdoctoral Scientist at the Centre of Structural Systems Biology (CSSB), German Electron Synchrotron (DESY), Hamburg, Germany, led an engaging and informative session. He provided an in-depth overview of amyloids, explaining their composition, structure, properties, and applications. He emphasized the 3D structure of proteins, the concept of nanotubes, and various methods used to analyze amyloid protein structures. The session was highly interactive, with Dr. Banerjee encouraging students to participate actively through discussions, questions, and insightful exchanges. This approach allowed students to clarify their doubts, explore new ideas, and gain a deeper understanding of protein structures and their significance.
The session concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Mr. T. Hariharasudhan, a third-year Biotechnology student, who expressed gratitude to the guest speaker, faculty members, and participants. The event was a resounding success, offering students a valuable learning experience and broadening their perspectives on the vast potential of proteins in scientific research and medical advancements.
