The Department of Biotechnology organized a guest lecture titled “Next-Gen Treatments: Pioneering Drug Innovations for Emerging Diseases” on the 23rd of August 2024. The event also marked the signing of an MoU between the Department of Biotechnology, Paavai Engineering College, and VJ Biotech, Coimbatore, highlighting a significant step in collaboration. The event was convened by Dr. M. Premkumar, Principal of Paavai Engineering College, and coordinated by Dr. C. Nirmala, Head of the Department, with Mr. K. Vignesh, AP/BT, serving as the staff coordinator.
Ms. Nikhitha C.S. served as the MC for the event and delivered the welcome address. The session was led by Dr. S. Vijayakumar, Founder of VJ Biotech. The program began with a prayer song performed by Ms. U. Bharathipriya (3rd year Biotechnology) and Ms. G. Priyadharshini (2nd year Biotechnology). Ms. K. Yuvashri (3rd year Biotechnology) provided an introduction to VJ Biotech, followed by Ms. M. C. Yuvashri (2nd year Biotechnology), who introduced the guest speaker.
Dr. M. Premkumar, Principal, delivered the presidential address, setting the tone for the guest lecture. Dr. Vijayakumar discussed pioneering drug innovations and the impact of next-gen treatments on emerging diseases. His presentation emphasized the role of medicinal plant-based therapies in addressing global health challenges and featured interactive discussions, allowing participants to ask questions and engage with the speaker.
