The Department of Civil Engineering, Paavai Engineering College (Autonomous) and Paavai Civil Engineering Association, Birla Shakti cements jointly organized Prize Awarding ceremony for the One Day Workshop titled “BIRLA – ConQUerete” Cube Contest on 13.05.2024 from 2.00 p.m. to 4.30 p.m. in Cute Hall. Mr.L.Dhanush, Third year student welcomed the gathering & Ms.P.N.Thenswetha, Final year student gave the Chief Guest introduction. In this both events, total number of 70 students of II, III and IV year Civil Engineering department has participated. Mr.S.Saravanan, State Head – Marketing, Birla Shakti cements, Chennai and Mr.J.Kannan, Branch Manager, Kesoram Industries Ltd., (Cement Division) Salem were the resource speakers.
During this workshop the student gained the knowledge on casting of concrete with the proper proportioning of ingredients such as ConQUerete cement, Fine aggregate and coarse aggregate etc.
In connection with the BIRLA – ConQUerete Cube Contest held on 16.04.2024. Totally 4 teams were participated in the event, then the cubes were casted and kept curing for 7 days. Finally, the cubes were tested and Compressive Strength were determined on 13.05.2024 and the results were announced by the resource persons as follows, Ms.R.Sharumathi and her team secured 1st place and received trophy and certificates from the State Head Marketing of Birla Shakti cements. Mr.D.Dharun and his team members secured 2nd place, Ms.P.N.Thenswetha and her team members secured 3rd place, received trophy and certificates from the Branch Manager, Kesoram Industries, Salem. The second year students received their appreciation certificates from the resource persons. Finally the feedback was given by the students regarding their experience gained during the cube contest.
Faculty members and students have actively participated in the event. Finally, the vote of thanks was delivered by Mr.M.Dhanush Second year student and the session was very interactive and informative.
Prof.K.Sharmiladevi, HoD/Civil, Mr.P.Vignesh, AP/Civil, Mr.N.Moorthi, AP/Civil and Mr.M.Rajkannan, AP/Civil Faculty coordinators along with faculty members and students from Civil Engineering department around 70 participants were present in the seminar.
