The Department of Cyber Security and MCA organized a guest lecture on “Data Visualization and Analytics with Power BI” on 09.10.2024. The resource person was Mr. A. Mohammed Azarudeen, SDLC Technical Lead & Corporate Trainer from Coimbatore. Rohith, a III-year Cyber Security student, introduced the technical trainer, and S. Varshini, a II-year Cyber Security student, delivered the welcome address.
Dr. K.K. Ramasamy, Director of Administration at Paavai Engineering College, delivered the presidential address, emphasizing that the outcome of the learning process must be positive in order to enhance skills, gain knowledge, and improve efficiency. Dr. P. Muthusamy, Head of the Department of Cyber Security and Master of Computer Applications, encouraged the students to hone their talents.
During the session, the trainer highlighted the importance of data visualization as a means of transforming raw data into digestible insights, discovering trends, and guiding decision-making through data analytics. He explained that Power BI is a versatile tool that integrates both visualization and analytics, offering features for report creation and sharing via Power BI Desktop, Service, and Mobile. Users can import data from various sources, clean and model it using the Power Query Editor, and create visualizations such as charts, graphs, and tables. The tool’s interactive features, such as slicers, filters, and formatting, further enhance user engagement.
Additionally, Power BI supports relationships between datasets, hierarchical views, and interactive dashboards that consolidate multiple visuals. Custom visualizations from the marketplace further extend the tool’s capabilities. Power BI also functions as a data modeling tool, supporting schemas like star and snowflake models. It uses DAX (Data Analysis Expressions) to perform complex calculations, enabling users to derive specific measures for analytics. In summary, Power BI offers a comprehensive solution for both data visualization and analytics.
