The Department of Cyber Security, in association with the Institution Innovation Council (IIC-PEC), organized a Guest Lecture on “Cyber Security – Staying Safe in the Digital World” on 7th March 2025.
The Resource Person, Mr. Sankarraj Subramaniam, Founder & CEO of Prompt Infotech, Coimbatore, delivered the session. A. Ajmal Thahseen, a III-year Cyber Security student, introduced the speaker, while K. Hanshika, also a III-year Cyber Security student, delivered the welcome address.
Dr. K. K. Ramasamy, Director of Administration, Paavai Engineering College, delivered the presidential address, emphasizing that the learning process should lead to skill enhancement, knowledge acquisition, and overall efficiency. Dr. P. Muthusamy, Head of the Department of Cyber Security & Master of Computer Applications, encouraged students to continuously improve their talents in the field.
The technical trainer explained that cybersecurity is essential for protecting computer systems, networks, programs, devices, and data from cyber-attacks and unauthorized access. He elaborated on the key benefits of cybersecurity, emphasizing its role in safeguarding personal privacy, preventing economic losses, and protecting intellectual property.
Using real-world examples, he demonstrated how cybersecurity is not only crucial for large corporations but also for individuals with an online presence. He provided clear insights on how everyone can keep their information secure.
He also highlighted the dangers of phishing scams, illustrating the potential consequences such as financial losses, damage to credit scores, and emotional distress. He stressed the importance of vigilance, best practices for securing personal information, and seeking help when in doubt to prevent cybercrime.
The goal of the guest lecture was to provide students with a real-time understanding of cybersecurity and its practical applications.
The valedictory function was held on 7th March 2025, marking the successful conclusion of the event. The session was highly interactive, with hands-on experience that enriched the students’ learning. A total of 250 students participated, gaining valuable insights into securing digital information.
The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by R. Samuel, a III-year Cyber Security student.
