The Department of Cyber Security, in association with the Institution Innovation Council (IIC-PEC), organized a Guest Lecture on “CYBER SECURITY – STAYING SAFE IN THE DIGITAL WORLD” on 7th March 2025.
The resource person for the event was Mr. Sankarraj Subramaniam, Founder & CEO, Prompt Infotech, Coimbatore. A. Ajmal Thahseen, a third-year Cyber Security student, introduced the technical trainer, while K. Hanshika, also from the third-year Cyber Security program, delivered the welcome address.
Dr. K. K. Ramasamy, Director of Administration, Paavai Engineering College, delivered the presidential address, emphasizing that the outcome of the learning process must be positive, enabling students to enhance their skills, gain knowledge, and become more efficient. Dr. P. Muthusamy, Head of the Department of Cyber Security and Master of Computer Applications, motivated students to improve their talents and stay updated in the field.
The technical trainer explained that cybersecurity protects computer systems, networks, programs, devices, and data from cyberattacks and unauthorized access. He elaborated on the technologies, processes, and policies used to mitigate risks and ensure data integrity.
He provided insights on staying safe in the digital world, highlighting the key benefits of cybersecurity. In today’s world, where personal communication, financial transactions, and critical infrastructure depend on digital networks, maintaining system integrity and security is essential. Cybersecurity safeguards individual privacy, prevents economic losses, and protects intellectual property.
Using real-world examples, the trainer explained the importance of securing information, not just for large corporations but for anyone with an online presence. He clearly demonstrated how individuals can protect their personal information online.
The speaker emphasized the dangers of phishing scams, explaining how falling victim to such attacks can lead to financial losses, damage to credit scores, and emotional distress. He highlighted the need to stay vigilant against potential threats, use best practices to secure personal data, and seek help when in doubt to avoid becoming a victim of cybercrime.
The primary goal of this Guest Lecture was to help students gain practical knowledge about cybersecurity and its real-time applications. The valedictory function was held on 7th March 2025, marking the conclusion of this highly informative and interactive session.
A total of 250 students participated in the event, finding the session engaging, insightful, and hands-on. The function ended with a vote of thanks, delivered by R. Samuel, a third-year Cyber Security student.
