The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering and the Energy Club, in association with IIC, PEC, of Paavai Engineering College (Autonomous), organized a one-day webinar titled “Fundamentals of Wind Energy Conversion System – MATLAB/Simulink Model Development” on 13th December 2024.
The webinar was presided over by Dr. M. Premkumar, Principal, who emphasized the importance of power conservation to the students during his inaugural address.
The guest speaker, Dr. Jakeer Hussain, Assistant Professor, School of Electrical Engineering, VIT Vellore, delivered an engaging session. He began by explaining that wind energy conversion systems are closely linked to electricity usage. He covered the fundamentals of wind energy conversion systems, including the latest advancements in model development.
Dr. Hussain discussed how renewable energy sources, particularly wind power, are gaining significant prominence. He categorized Wind Energy Conversion Systems (WECS) based on various criteria and elaborated on their applications, including Horizontal Axis Wind Turbines (HAWT) and Vertical Axis Wind Turbines (VAWT), in both small-scale and standalone setups.
He also provided an overview of the challenges faced by the power sector and highlighted the critical role of electrical engineers in addressing these challenges. The session concluded with an interactive Q&A, where he clarified students’ queries related to the webinar topic.
The program was highly inspiring and informative for the participants. Earlier, Ms. K. Shobika (II Year EEE) welcomed the gathering, Ms. M. Deepikasri (II Year EEE) introduced the Chief Guest, and Ms. N. Naaga Varshithaa (II Year EEE) delivered the vote of thanks.
A total of 150 participants benefited from this webinar.
