The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering of Paavai Engineering College organized an Online Guest Lecture on “Electric Transportation and its Fast Charging Solution” on 10 May, 2024. Er. Suresh Thangavel, Global Application Manager, Infineon Technologies AG Warstein, Germany was the resource person. The welcome address was given by S.Nathiya, 3rd year EEE and Chief Guest introduction given by A.Nisha, 3rd year EEE.
The resource person discussed Infineon’s focus on various markets, including commercial, construction, and agriculture vehicles (CAVs), as well as electrification, safety & ADAS, and connectivity & security. They also covered megatrends in these markets, compared battery electric vehicle (BEV) trucks with passenger cars, provided examples of recent electrified heavy-duty vehicles reflecting market trends, discussed use cases for CAVs, and explained how to recharge an eTruck and eBus. Additionally, they covered the complete EV charging ecosystem from AC to high-power DC, provided an application overview, and discussed a generic eTruck/eBus HV architecture with various applications featuring high potential semiconductor content. They also discussed application requirements and compared Prime PACKTM3+IGBT5/.XT joining with Prime PACKTM3 IGBT4 with standard joining. They further discussed EV charging solutions, including the power conversion subunit and the typical equivalent circuit diagram of the power conversion unit. They explained what sets SIC MOSFETs apart from IGBTs, compared the efficiency simulation of typical PFC topologies, and discussed the potential impact of fuel cell vehicles rising.
The Head of the Department, Faculty members and Students have participated the session and benefitted. The Vote of thanks was delivered by M.Kavipriya, 3rd year EEE in the end. Dr.G.Balaji, Prof and Head/EEE, Dr.A.Rathinam, Prof/EEE, and G.Deivamani Assistant Professor/EEE took care of the arrangements required to organize the program. The master of ceremony was taken care by R.Janani 3rd year EEE.
