The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering of Paavai Engineering College organized an Online Guest Lecture on “An Integrated Approach for EV Traction Motor Design” on 26 June, 2024. Dr.M.Ramkumar, ME., Ph.D, Senior specialist-Electrical vehicle, Royal Enfield was the resource person. The welcome address was given by S.Vaiishnavi, 2nd year EEE and Chief Guest introduction given by R.Elakya, 2nd year EEE. The resource person explained on integrated solutions for electric vehicle simulation, providing a comprehensive overview of critical methodologies and tools essential in modern automotive engineering. The presentation began with a detailed analysis of Brushless DC (BLDC) motor specifications and progressed to cover pre-sizing, system-level design, template-based analytical approaches, and Finite Element Method (FEM) optimization techniques. The lecture emphasized the importance of coupled electromagnetic and thermal design validation to ensure reliability and performance in various operational conditions. Virtual drive cycle testing was highlighted as essential for evaluating and optimizing EV performance across diverse scenarios. The session concluded with a thorough summary of motor characteristics crucial for effective design, emphasizing efficiency, reliability, and strategies for thermal management. Overall, the presentation underscored how advanced simulation and optimization tools drive innovation and sustainability in the electric vehicle sector, paving the way for future advancements in automotive technology.
