The Department of EEE organized an online webinar on “INDUSTRIAL POWER SYSTEM ANALYSIS – AN OVERVIEW” through the Google Meet platform on 30.01.2025, from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM.
The event began with a warm welcome from Ms. R. Elakiya, a third-year student in the Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department. Dr. R. Johnnie Hepziba, Assistant Lead Engineer at Vestas, Chennai, was the distinguished guest speaker. She delivered an insightful talk, providing a comprehensive overview of Industrial Power System Analysis and emphasizing its critical role in ensuring reliability, efficiency, and safety in industrial electrical networks.
Dr. Hepziba highlighted the significance of load flow analysis in optimizing power distribution, ensuring voltage stability, and minimizing energy losses. She also discussed short-circuit analysis, stressing the importance of designing robust protection schemes to mitigate fault-related risks.
Furthermore, she addressed the growing challenges of harmonic distortion in modern industries, particularly due to the increased use of power electronics. She explained how harmonic analysis helps in identifying and mitigating these disturbances to maintain power quality.
She also emphasized the importance of transient stability analysis, which assesses system behavior under sudden disturbances, ensuring seamless operations during switching events or faults. The discussion on arc flash analysis provided valuable insights into workplace safety, highlighting the need for proper protective measures and compliance with international safety standards.
Her talk concluded with a focus on emerging trends such as smart grids, automation, and renewable energy integration in industrial power systems. She encouraged professionals to leverage advanced simulation tools and engineering best practices to enhance system performance, improve sustainability, and ensure uninterrupted industrial operations.
This one-day online webinar was organized by Dr. G. Balaji, Professor and Head of the Department, and coordinated by Dr. S. Rathinacel, Mrs. K. K. Poongodi, and Mrs. G. Deivamani.
Ms. R. Elakiya, a third-year EEE student, introduced the chief guest, and Ms. S. Shobika, a final-year EEE student, delivered the vote of thanks.
