A guest lecture titled “Security Sensors & Automation for Residences” was organized by the Department of Mechatronics Engineering at Paavai Engineering College, Namakkal, on October 8, 2024. The event aimed to raise awareness among students about security sensors and residential automation systems.
The welcome address was delivered by A. Mohammed Ismail, a third-year Mechatronics student. Dr. M. Premkumar, Principal of Paavai Engineering College, delivered the presidential address, emphasizing the importance of positive learning outcomes, focusing on skill enhancement, knowledge acquisition, and efficiency improvement.
The guest speaker for the event was Mr. A. Tharun, a Solution Expert from INKA CASA Intelligent, Coimbatore, introduced by S. Deepak Kumar, another third-year Mechatronics student.
Mr. Tharun provided an insightful overview of security sensors and explained how home automation is revolutionizing residential security through advanced technologies such as AI, smart sensors, and cloud-based systems. He discussed various security devices, including motion detectors, door/window sensors, and cameras equipped with facial recognition, all designed to enhance threat detection. Furthermore, he highlighted the convenience of automated lighting and smart locks. AI-driven systems help reduce false alarms and enable predictive monitoring, while edge computing and cloud storage ensure fast, secure data processing.
Approximately 100 students attended the guest lecture. The resource speaker also addressed questions from the audience during the interactive Q&A session. The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by J. Vishwa, a third-year Mechatronics student.
The lecture was organized by Dr. D. R. P. Rajarathnam, Head of the Mechatronics Department, along with Mr. R. Karthick, Assistant Professor of Mechatronics.
