The Department of Pharmaceutical Technology, Medino, in association with the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC-PEC), conducted a guest lecture on the topic “Innovation/Prototype Validation – Converting Innovation into a Start-Up” on Thursday, August 22, 2024. The session was attended by students of the Pharmaceutical Technology department and EDC volunteers from the Mechatronics department.
The resource person, Mr. Gowtham Shanmugam, EDII TN District Coordinator, Dharmapuri, provided valuable insights into the start-up ecosystem and patenting processes. He emphasized the importance of identifying problem statements and developing unique, innovative solutions. Drawing from his own experience as an EDC Coordinator, Mr. Shanmugam shared his journey from a student to a field coordinator, inspiring the students to pursue their entrepreneurial ambitions.
He discussed how students can transform their simple ideas into proposals eligible for grant funding, highlighting specific schemes available, particularly for women entrepreneurs and SC/ST students. His talk motivated the students to participate in the upcoming EDC Hackathon and encouraged them to explore their innovative ideas further. Additionally, Mr. Shanmugam offered opportunities for students to attend training programs or internships under his guidance.
Two students from the Mechatronics department, whose ideas were recently selected by the EDC for further development, shared their experiences and clarified queries for their peers. The session concluded with an interactive Q&A, where students engaged with the guest speaker, further illuminating their understanding of entrepreneurship and innovation.
