The Department of Biotechnology has conducted an online Guest lecture on the topic “Medical Coding -Critical Role in Future Health Care Industries” on 14th December 2023.The Resource person was Mr.Manoj Pidugu, Team Leader, VEE Technologies ,Salem. Dr.C.Nirmala , Head of the Department of Biotechnology gave the welcome address and Mr.Santhosh II-,BTech Biotechnology hosted the event. The session started with the brief profile introduction of the esteemed guest by Ms.Sabitha, II-,BTech Biotechnology. The speaker explained about various concepts of Medical Coding and Its role in future health care industries. He started off by presenting the PPT which briefly explained about Revenue Cycle Management (RCM). He illustrated how RCM plays a vital role in encompassing the process of managing financial transactions related to patient health care. He acknowledged us about the patient Preregistration process in which the patient’s information was gathered and verified before the appointment to streamline the process. He briefly explained about Claim submission and Claim adjudication processes. He also said how this process is carried out in developed countries like the US. He gave us a clear view about how medical coding is done by a medical coder and what are the advantages of being a medical coder. He concluded his session by providing information related to the salary that can be earned by being a medical coder and also the steps needed to be taken in this designation. He insisted on student interactive session. His teaching and presentation was magnificent and inspirational. A total of 65 students attended the programme that was a thought feeding session and concluded by answering the queries of students followed by vote of thanks given by Ms. Santhiya IInd year Biotechnology student.
