The Department of chemistry organized an online Guest Lecture on” Air Pollution and it’s Climate Change“on 15thJune 2023 at 06.30p.m.through the Microsoft Teams platform. The Resource person was Prof.V N Kowshalya Assitant Professor(SG), Department of Chemistry, Kongu Engineeing College (Autonomous), Perindurai, Tamilnadu.Thewelcome address was given by Anish Klinton from first year AI&ML (CSE) and Dr.R.Gayathri, AP(SG) /Chemistry introduced the resource person .
The objective of organizing the online guest lecture was to create awareness about air pollution, increasing air pollutants concentration prevented and controlled and climate change enhances and creates risks, Identifying and implementing sound climate risk management strategies involves many challenges. . The air pollution contributes to the problem of acid rain and the depletion of ozone layer .The ozone layer is important for the earth because it protects the earth from the UV rays of the sun. But when it gets depleted, the UV rays can enter earth and affects humans. The resources person describes several ways in which climate change like green house gases, global warming, Acid rain, Ozone layer depletion and affect risk calculation, why uncertainty plays a critical role in climate risk analysis and different approaches to climate risk management.
Finally, the vote of thanks was delivered by Dr.N.Dhanabalan ASP/Chemistry. Faculty members and about 220 students were present in the meeting. The feedback received from the students should understand this world wide problems of Air pollution and climate change and think about its remedy.
