The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering of Paavai Engineering College organized a National-level One-Day Seminar on “SCADA and Power Plant Engineering” on 22nd February 2024 at Kalams Chamber. Sanjay Deonath Patil, Director; D. Anbarasu, Deputy Director; and Dr. V. Suresh Babu, Assistant Director from the National Power Training Institute (PSTI), Ministry of Power, Government of India, Banashankari – II Stage, Bangalore – 560 070, were the resource persons. The welcome address was given by Selvi J. Merlin, IV Year EEE of Paavai Engineering College. The Chief Guest Introduction was delivered by Selvi M. Iniyaa, Selvan Komara Prasad, and Selvan V. Viswabharath, IV Year EEE students. The Presidential Address was delivered by Dr. I. Rajendran, Dean – Research & Innovation of Paavai Engineering College. He emphasized the value of natural resources and their utilization, such as water resources and electrical energy.
Sanjay Deonath Patil explained the significance of Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems and Network layer protocols, emphasizing how the network layer in SCADA systems facilitates communication between various components, such as sensors, actuators, and the central control unit. He highlighted the importance of protocols in formatting, addressing, transmitting, and receiving data, ensuring interoperability between different devices and systems. He highlighted network layer security measures like encryption and authentication to protect against cyber threats. Dr. V. Suresh Babu described the present scenario of power plants in India, explaining the importance of monitoring parameters in the industrial sector, such as power factor, maximum demand, peak-hour unit consumption, and normal-hour unit consumption. D. Anbarasu explained the internal structure of a power plant, including components like a boiler, turbine, generator, condenser, auxiliary systems for fuel and ash handling, water treatment, and environmental control.
The Head of the Department, faculty members, and students participated in the session and benefitted. The Vote of Thanks was delivered by Selvi M. Iniyaa, IV/EEE at the end. Dr. A. Rathinam, Prof/EEE, Dr. C. Arulkumar, ASP/EEE, and G. Uma Maheswari, ASP/EEE, took care of the arrangements required to organize the program.
