Guest lecture titled “3D PRINTING” on 21.07.2023 organized by the Department of Mechatronics Engineering, Paavai Engineering College, Namakkal.
It was aimed at providing awareness to students about the 3D printing technology. Welcome address was given by N. Kamalesh, IV MCT. Dr S. Sudhagar M.E., Ph.D., Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Kalaignarkarunanidhi Institute of Technology, Coimbatore was the resource speaker. J. Jasmine, III MCT introduced the resource speaker.
Dr S. Sudhagar gave introduction about the 3D printing. He explained about the history of 3D printing, variety of processes, equipments, and materials used in the synthesis of a three-dimensional object. 3D printing (additive manufacturing) processes tend to be additive in nature with a few key differences in the technologies and the materials used in this process. He emphasized on some of the different types of processes include extrusion, light polymerization, continuous liquid interface production and powder bed. Each process and piece of equipment has pros and cons associated with it. These usually involve aspects such as speed, costs, as well as a mechanical and appearance properties of the material like strength, texture and colour. Processes like selective laser melting (SLM) or direct metal laser sintering (DMLS), selective laser sintering (SLS), fused deposition modeling (FDM), or fused filament fabrication (FFF), while others cure liquid materials using different sophisticated technologies, such as stereo lithography (SLA) are discussed illustratively. Around 100 students participated in the guest lecture. Queries were asked and it was clarified by the resource speakers.
The session ended with a Vote of Thanks by V. Dhivya, III MCT. The event was organized by Dr.D.R.P. Rajarathnam, HoD/MCT and Mr.R. Arunbabu, Assistant Professor/MCT.
