The Department of Mechanical Engineering and The Resource Club jointly organized a webinar on “LEAN MANUFACTURING” on 06.06.2022 to provide inputs on ‘Lean Manufacturing’ technique applied in different industries to reduce cost, waste and add value to their products. Dr.N.RAJESHWARI, Head of the Department, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Saint Peters Institute of Higher Education and Research, Chennai ,Tamilnadu was the Guest Speaker. The Director – Administration, Dr. K.K.Ramasamy, and the Principal,Dr.M.Premkumar provided the required support and guidance to conduct the programme. The webinar was convened by Professor & Head of the Department, Dr.A.P.Sivasubramaniam and coordinated by Professors Dr.M.S. Vijayanand, Dr. P.Pugalenthi and Mr. S.Prabhakaran The Welcome address was delivered by Mr.S.Sivalingam and the Chief Guest introduced by Mr. N. SelvaPrabhu, both students from Third year Mechanical Engineering. Faculty members and students actively participated in the webinar in large numbers.
The expert speaker, Dr.N.RAJESHWARI, explained what Lean Manufacturing is and how it is applied in almost all industries to improve productivity, improve quality, add value to products and reduce material wastes. She further explained how over-processing, over-production, over-burden on employees and such activities deteriorate the performance of the organizations with suitable examples. She further noted that there are eight wastes that an industry should avoid to implements Lean Manufacturing, which are: Defect, Over-production, Waiting, Not Utilizing Talent, Transportation Excess, Inventory Excess, Motion Excess and Excess Processing. Then the Guest speaker described the benefits of Lean Manufacturing and about the companies that have successfully adapted the tool. At the end of the session the guest speaker answered elaborately to the questions raised by the students and the faculty members.
All the participants found the program very informative and interesting. The final year Mechanical Engineering student Mr.P.Jayaprakash took care of the Master of Ceremony and also delivered the Vote of Thanks.
