“Leadership is the capacity to translate vision in to reality”. A one day workshop on “Leadership skills” was organized for the first year faculty members of Paavai Engineering colleges on 26.09.19 at Smart hall, PEC to empower the faculty members in terms of cognitive, affective and psychomotor domains. The special address was delivered by Shri.CA.N.V.Natarajan, Chairman, Paavai Institutions. In his special address, the chairman focussed on the topics such as, roles and responsibilities of a leader, qualities of a good leader, why leadership fails, leadership styles and qualities of a strong leader. In the beginning of the address, the chairman gave an introduction on leadership skills and the role of teacher as a leader in the classroom. He explained the components of teaching and the ultimate aim of teaching-learning process. He further stressed that, the role clarity, reading habits, knowledge updation and communication skill is an essential component of a teacher. He said that the ultimate aim of a teacher is to produce 100% result in their respective subjects in which they teach. He elaborated the qualities of a good leader like learner, decision maker, aggressive forerunner, visionary, sincere listener, honesty and empathy, initiator and perfect achiever. For each of the points, he illustrated with examples from life incidents of Arignar Annadurai, Kalaignar Karunanidhi and puratchi thalaivar M.G.R. He differentiated the terms, group and team. In this context, he emphasized that all the faculty members unite and work as a team to produce the desired outcome. Then, he went on talked about the planning of a lesson and pedagogical skills. Next, he highlighted the leadership styles. He accentuated that the leader should be democratic to achieve the common goal. Further, he spoke about the qualities of a strong leader such as optimistic, resourceful, stay focussed and so on. The focal point of his address was, to make all the students graduate and successful in their career. Finally, he concluded by citing the statistical data that, the attributes in particular like, commitment, loyalty, motivation, pride would give productivity of an individual. He wished that all the teachers should become an exemplary leader for their respective students, so that the students in turn exemplify in their career. Mrs.Mangai Natarajan, correspondent felicitated the gathering. She pinpointed the dynamics of a classroom and the responsibilities of a teacher. She expressed that the teacher need to know the students in person and they should help the students to maintain the dignity and decorum of the college. She reinforced that, it is the teacher’s responsibility and accountability to contribute for the students’ community to make them as an employable citizen.
